You will need to flash the downloaded ROM through the official Mi Flash tool or fastboot. Your device will need to have an unlocked bootloader in order to install it.
Install Google Apps on MIUI 9 Beta
For this scenario, we wouldn’t follow the general procedure of flashing GApps using TWRP. Rather, all you need to do is, download this zip package. Extract its content and transfer the APK files to your device.
Install all the transferred files in the following order – 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06. Once you have installed all of them, you can start by logging into your Google account.
Convert “Chinese” ROM to “Global”
Now that you have been successful to download MIUI 9 Beta ROM for your device, you can read the instructions below to help you convert the “Chinese ROM” to “Global”. In order for this process to work, you will also need to have TWRP installed on your device and it should be rooted too.
- Download a root file explorer on your device. We recommend Solid Explorer File Manager.
- Go to the /system partition. You will also require granting root permissions to the app for this.
- Browse the location and open the build.prop file to edit it.
- Add the following lines to the very end of the build.prop file:
- Now what you need to do is, replace the device name (scorpio) in the “ro.product.mod_device” value with yours. Eg. gemini for Mi 5 or natrium Mi 5s Plus.
- Also, change the region/language value with that of yours. Here “it” or “IT” stands for Italy.
- Finally, save the build.prop file and reboot your device for the changes to take effect.
There you have it. You have downloaded MIUI 9 Beta ROM, installed it, installed Google Apps, and changed the ROM to “Global”.
